Abstract

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, is pleased to publish the inaugural issue of Journal of Engineering Innovation and Sustainability (JEIS). This issue of JEIS (Vol. 1, Issue 1, 2025) presents a collection of innovative research that addresses critical issues in engineering and technology. It features five impactful studies that explore diverse topics from power distribution networks in Nigeria to advanced communication systems, agricultural management, and image classification models. One study examines the equitable allocation of power loss in Nigerian distribution networks. The paper introduces a technique that integrates distributed generation to improve stability and efficiency. Another paper reviews reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) in non-orthogonal multiple access communications. It sheds light on the potential of RIS to revolutionize wireless systems for higher efficiency and better connectivity. The issue also includes a study on the effect of varying base transceiver station parameters on power density distribution in Southwestern Nigeria using the Cost-231 Hata model to optimize network performance and coverage. Furthermore, a research paper focuses on optimizing image classification models, emphasizing both computational efficiency and accuracy for real-time applications. The final paper presents a predictive decision support system for crop growth and management in tropical regions. The study provides a tool to support improved agricultural practices and sustainability.
